History
106 years old, 630 Virginia Park began as a prominent Detroit Jewelers house. It became the Goddard Mansion, bought by an important Detroit Architect who admired the amazing woodwork, pewabic tiling, and detail throughout. In the 60’s it was a boarding house. In 1969 it became the Gamma Omega house of Sigma Pi Fraternity International, and after 40 strong years of developing the future leaders of Industry, Government & Arts in Detroit; this Wayne State University treasure has stood the test of time, and became a landmark respected and adored by thousands.
But it is in trouble. Time has withered away at her, and as Detroit suffers through the hardest times since the Great Depression, this old house is in jeopardy. For 40 years now, her hallowed halls have been kept up by the young fraternal men who have passed through college and known her as “home”. But today, with so many out of work, with restorations that have been needed for decades, the chapter’s current young men cannot stand alone.
Without intervention from the Alumni of 40 strong years, 630 Virginia Park will be lost.
Which is unacceptable.
… and that is why we are calling on Alumni, parents, and friends of this great old house to come together with us, help us bring her back to life; so that 40 more strong years of college men can call her “home”, and proudly someday give back to her, just as we are coming together to do so now.
It is time to give back.
